Biography
31 July 1887, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. d. 3 December 1967, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. A gifted multi-instrumentalist, Bocage came from a musical family. In the early years of the century he played violin in several dance bands in New Orleans. Later, he began playing cornet in bands including that led by Papa Celestin, before joining Armand J. Piron for a lengthy spell. He stayed with Piron until the end of the 20s, becoming a member of the Creole Serenaders, a band led by Louis Warneke. Resident in the north-east, by the beginning of the 40s Bocage was playing only part-time but gigged and recorded with Sidney Bechet and others. In the mid-40s he returned to New Orleans where he remained for the rest of his life, playing with Emile Barnes, the Eureka Brass Band and other local groups.
