Biography
This underground hip-hop group was formed by US DJs/MCs Double K (Michael Turner, 1 August 1977, Los Angeles, California, USA) and Thes One (b. Christopher Portugal, 18 October 1977, Lima, Peru). The duo found each other through a love of the block rocking hip-hop styles of Freestyle Fellowship and the Beatnuts, which became the catalyst to forming People Under The Stairs in Los Angeles in the mid-90s. They spent a few years bonding, trawling LA records shops searching out rare and obscure breaks to formulate their own original productions. The hard work paid off with the delivery of their debut, The Next Step, in 1998. The whole album reels from the dancefloor friendly Time To Rock Our Shit, and Asshole, to the storytelling Ten Tough Guys, encapsulating a true hip-hop aesthetic.
