Pat Halcox

Decades Active: 1980s 1990s

Patrick Halcox, 17 March 1930, London, England. Playing part-time in the early 50s, trumpeter Halcox quickly established himself as a leading figure in the British trad jazz scene. He teamed up with Chris Barber and Monty Sunshine in their co-operative band, but then decided to pursue the career of research chemist for which he had trained. The Barber band continued without a trumpet for a while before engaging Ken Colyer. In 1954 a rift developed in the Barber-Colyer relationship, and Halcox was persuaded to return and become a full-time musician. He has been a member of the band ever since. The eclectic musical personality of the Barber band is an ideal setting for Halcox’s wide-ranging style; he remains one of the band’s greatest assets and is also one of the UK’s leading traditional and mainstream trumpeters.
