Biography
Moscow, Russia. Konkova studied classical piano and composition at the Russian Academy of Music, from where she graduated in 1993. Having already developed an interest in jazz through hearing recordings by Miles Davis, she next attended Berklee College Of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. After this, she took up residence in Oslo, where she became a respected member of Norways vibrant jazz scene and also married the Norwegian jazz bass player, Per Mathisen. Among her jazz piano influences are Chick Corea, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock and John Lewis. Powerfully aggressive at times, meltingly melodic at others, Konkova is an immensely talented musician who delights in deconstructing the familiar staples of the jazz and pop world and revitalizing them in her own image.
