Achinoam Nini, Israel. Of Yemenite origin, Noa was transplanted to New York, USA, at the age of one. She subsequently studied at the High School of Performing Arts. She then abandoned her studies to return to Israel to ‘establish her identity’ and complete her military service, at which time she also began her professional singing career. She regularly performed on makeshift stages to troops stationed throughout Israel as a member of the entertainment corps. However, it was in France that she initially found favour. Her self-titled debut album was produced by Pat Metheny (her instructor at Boston’s Berklee College Of Music) and Steve Rodby, and released on Geffen Records. It quickly earned gold certification (100, 000 sales) through Noa’s frequent television and radio appearances.
