Biography
24 June 1956, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Coleman came to the blues from choice but not until he had exhausted his taste for Top 40 showbands. It was something of a return, since in his early years he had grown up surrounded by the musicians who congregated for rehearsals with his father, drummer Cleo Bald Head Pete Williams. Consequently, he was playing guitar and bass before his tenth birthday. As well as Top 40 work, he also accompanied Aron Burton and Johnny Dollar to Chicagos North Side to play blues, and in 1975 turned to playing blues full-time. In 1979 he toured Europe with Eddy Clearwater and later, Professor Eddie Lusk. During the 80s Coleman spent a year with Junior Wells and shorter periods with Buster Benton and Jimmy Dawkins. He also worked with James Cotton for 10 years and backed him on his Alligator album, Live From Chicago - Mr Superharp Himself.
