Topley-Bird is perhaps best known as the stunning vocal foil to hip-hop/trip-hop maverick Tricky, appearing on his mesmerizing 1994 debut Maxinquaye where she infused lines like The place where I stand gives way to liquid lino/Underneath the weeping willow lies a weeping wino (Ponderosa) with pathos and beauty. She also performed on Trickys follow-up, Pre-Millennium Tension, and worked on the Nearly God side-project. As well as collaborating musically, the pair have a child together, although have subsequently separated. Topley-Birds own album took four years to complete. For the most part, Quixotic was recorded with step-brother Nick Bird, Steve Critall and Alex McGowan (collectively known as Amp 9) but also featured Tricky (he produced and appeared on Ilya and Ragga), Josh Homme and Mark Lanegan of Queens Of The Stone Age (on Need One), David Arnold...
