19 August 1968, North Carolina, USA. During the early twenty-first century, McGuinn merged country with upbeat pop, creating a new accessible sound custom made for the mainstream. Originating from North Carolina, McGuinns roots lay in jazz, and music was not his initial career choice, as he sought to become a professional soccer player. His mother convinced McGuinn to take up the trumpet, which soon led to an interest in jazz, but he continued with his sports aspirations well into college before a knee injury abruptly ended his promising career. Music became McGuinns focus there afterwards, as he taught himself guitar and piano, and began writing original compositions after relocating to the country capital of the world, Nashville, Tennessee, during 1993.
