Biography

1971, Columbus, Ohio, USA. Raised in the Washington, DC, area, as a very young child Johnson showed an interest in business affairs, running his own commercial enterprises while in his early teens. He was also interested in music and from an early age was self-taught on keyboards and piano. Johnson has cited not only musicians as diverse as Joe Sample and Thelonious Monk as influences but also Quincy Jones, George Duke and Gerald Albright, the last three seemingly as much for their businesslike approach to music as for artistic reasons. The pop music he heard in his formative years was hip-hop and rap although the fact that his mother, an amateur pianist, played classical music helped broaden his horizons. While studying at Georgetown University, he formed his own company, Marimelj Entertainment Group, Inc., intent on later developing a career as a recording artist.
