Decades Active: 2000s

This short-lived hard rock quartet from the north of England was formed by Mantas after quitting the demonic thrash metallers Venom. Enlisting the help of vocalist Pete Harrison, second guitarist Al Barnes and Keith Nichol on keyboards, their debut and only release comprised nine new originals penned by Mantas. Moving away from the one-dimensional approach of Venom, they straddled the ground between AOR and the more commercial slant of Rainbow, Saxon and Dio. Winds Of Change featured computerized drums and extensive use of keyboards, but Harrison’s vocals lacked distinction and the material was ultimately dull. The album was ignored by mainstream record purchasers aside from diehard Venom fans. Following a careful rethink, Mantas disbanded the group and rejoined Venom in 1989.
