Biography
Lilian Patricia Lita Roza, 14 March 1926, Liverpool, England. A popular singer, particularly during the 50s, whose name is forever associated with the renowned Ted Heath Orchestra. At the age of 12 she appeared in a Christmas pantomime in Norwich, and when she was 15, took part in the revue Black Velvet, which starred top UK comedian Ted Ray. After working outside showbusiness for a while, she became the resident vocalist at the New York restaurant in the northern seaside resort of Southport. By the time she was 17, she had joined Harry Roys Band for a tour of the Middle East, and then sang with Art Thompsons group at Londons Embassy Club. Later, she toured with Edmundo Ros before moving to the USA, where she stayed until 1950. On her return to the UK, Roza successfully auditioned for Ted Heath by singing on one of his popular London Palladium Swing Concerts, and was allocated the middle stool, between Dickie Valentine and Dennis Lotis.
