Marcus Leke Edwards, Houston, Texas, USA. This southern rapper grew up in the Herschelwood area of Houston, learning to freestyle with a group of gang friends. He became a founding member of DJ Screw’s Screwed Up Click, making his debut on the DJ’s first commercial release, 3 ’N The Mornin, with the rap ‘Pimp The Pen’. The track became a local hit and established Lil’ Keke as one of the Screwed Up Click’s biggest stars. He went on to appear on numerous releases associated with the rap collective, and signed a solo recording contract with the Texas label Jam Down. His solo debut Don’t Mess Wit Texas was released in 1997. The album went on to sell over 40, 000 copies in Houston alone, and led to its nationwide distribution in a new form under the title The Commission.
