Biography
18 April 1955, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Williams first exposure to the blues was through the records of Elmore James and Muddy Waters, and his uncle J.B. Hutto taught him to play slide guitar when he was 13 years old. Williams also taught himself bass and drums. He played with Hutto, whose stinging playing is echoed in his own raunchy style, and also worked for tips in west side Chicago clubs with his bass playing half-brother James Pookie Young. A three-hour session for Alligator Records in 1986 resulted in Williams debut album and one track on the ground-breaking New Bluesblood compilation the following year. These recordings garnered international acclaim for Williams and his group the Blues Imperials, featuring Williams, Young, guitarist Dave Weld, and drummer Louis Henderson.
