Leonard Rosenman

Biography

7 September 1924, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA, d. 4 March 2008, Woodland Hills, California, USA. A composer and arranger for films and television, who only studied music seriously after serving in the US Air Force during World War II. His first film score, East Of Eden (1955), was followed in the same year by another James Dean vehicle, Rebel Without A Cause. Rosenman’s other 50s scores included dramas such as Bombers B-52, Edge Of The City, The Young Stranger, Lafayett Escadrille, Pork Chop Hill and The Savage Eye. After providing music for more in the same genre in the 60s, such as The Rise And Fall Of Legs Diamond, The Bramble Bush, The Chapman Report, A Covenant With Death and Hellfighters, plus essays into science-fiction with Countdown and Fantastic Voyage, Rosenman received much critical acclaim for his score to A Man Called Horse and Beneath The Planet Of The Apes.
