Biography
Formed in Tooting, London, England, in 1986 by Patrick Fitzgerald (7 April 1964, Basel, Switzerland), Julian Swales (b. 23 March 1964, Gwent, Wales) and Daniel Goodwin (b. 22 July 1964, Salamanca, Spain), Kitchens Of Distinction took their name from a Hygena advertisement and pursued a precarious path through the UK independent record industry. A debut single on their own Gold Rush Records in 1987, Last Gasp Death Shuffle, brought them a New Musical Express Single Of The Week award, and after signing to One Little Indian Records there were hints at an upturn in fortunes. Marrying a melodic sensibility with a stunning array of guitar effects, slight problems only appeared when the critical success of their first album, Love Is Hell, was not matched in commercial terms.
