Biography
This UK psychobilly band consisted of Bert (Robert Boustead; bass), Rory Lyons (drums), Maggot (Alan Power; saxophone), John Reddington (guitar), Smeg (Gary Cayton; vocals) and Thwack (Paul Laventhol; guitar). Formed at the beginning of 1983, they rose to fame in the autumn of that year with the UK Top 40 single Destination Zululand. A riotous Top Of The Pops television appearance gave some clues as to the nature of their live shows, in which audiences would be regularly doused in flour, water, and less savoury items. Produced by Dave Edmund s, the bands debut album Ooh Wallah Wallah combined raw rockabilly with punk energy. Two minor UK hit singles emerged in 1984 with a captivating version of the Bertolt Brecht / Kurt Weill composition Mack The Knife and the decidedly less challenging Banana Banana.
