Biography
Based in Vancouver, Canada, married partners Khac Chi and Ngoc Bich have steadily built a reputation for introducing authentic Vietnamese instrumentation and musical cadences to the west. Chi began to play the dan bau (a single-string zither) when he was eight years old. By his mid-twenties he was made deputy head of the Traditional Music department at the Conservatory Of Music in Hanoi. He met Bich there in 1979, both playing dan bau in the school orchestra. Chi was also an orchestra conductor. Marrying in 1988, they formed their own ensemble in order to export indigenous Vietnamese music abroad. Although they performed extensive international touring dates, they elected to settle in Canada after playing at the 1992 Vancouver Folk Festival.
