John Robert Varro, 11 January 1930, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA. As a child Varro studied piano privately and in his mid-teens was working professionally in the city of his birth. After military service he worked with Bobby Hackett and was a regular at noted New York jazz clubs, Eddie Condons and Nicks. From the mid-60s he was based in Florida and in addition to leading his own groups also played with the Dukes Of Dixieland. At the end of the 70s, he relocated to the west coast where he played at numerous clubs. Additionally, he performed in bands led by others, including Wild Bill Davison, touring Europe with him in 1986, and Peanuts Hucko.
