Biography
11 September 1965, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Davis began playing alto saxophone as a child, drawing his first influence from Grover Washington Jnr. but was encouraged by Ellis Marsalis to listen to Charlie Parker. As Davis told a journalist in an interview for Jazz Journal International, this helped me get really serious about wanting to be a jazz musician... . He went to college in Chicago, studying and sitting-in, and later, in 1986, attended William Patterson College in New Jersey where he studied with Rufus Reid. Davis began recording in 1990, with Reid and Akira Tana, and two years later made his first album under his own name. A remarkably gifted soloist with an unceasing flow of ideas, Davis is well placed to become one of the major names in jazz.
