Biography
25 March 1906, Nogent-sur-Marne, Seine, France, d. 24 February 1994, Cannes-La-Bocca, France. The son of a composer, Jean Sablon studied music and piano at the Lyceé Charlemagne in Paris, but left before the end of his third term. Moving instead to the conservatoire, he found supporting roles in operettas, before making his professional bow at the Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens in Trois Jeunes Filles Nues (Three Naked Girls) in 1923. By this time Sablon was already writing songs, and he was encouraged in this pursuit when his first film appearance, Chacun Sa Chance, proved a flop. However, after a sojourn in Brazil he returned to Paris to work in cabaret. There he formed an alliance with Jean Cocteau, Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli.
