Biography
30 June 1947, Enschede, Netherlands. Both Vant Hofs parents were musicians and he had six years of classical piano lessons. He was a founder member of Association PC (1970-72) before starting his own band, Pork Pie, with Charlie Mariano and Philip Catherine in the mid-70s. He continued playing with Mariano right through the 80s, as well as with, among others, Archie Shepp, Jean-Luc Ponty and Alphonze Mouzon. He also led the fusion band Eyeball including Didier Lockwood, and founded Pili Pili, an evolving ensemble which concocts a potent mix of jazz, funk and African percussion. Vant Hof is a pianist of great technical facility who has enthusiastically incorporated into his music synthesizers and the possibilities of electronic music of all kinds.
