Biography
11 January 1958, Buckhaven, Fife, Scotland. Russell is as well-known for her work with Sisters Unlimited as for her solo performances. Following an early career singing in the clubs of Edinburgh, she went on to support to a number of major artists at the Edinburgh Folk and Fringe Festivals from 1981-83. In addition, Russell worked with Christine Kydd, performing on Folk On 2 for BBC Radio. The pair released Janet Russell And Christine Kydd, on Greentrax Records. Russells first solo outing on record emerged with Gathering The Fragments on Harbourtown Records, a release that was well received and gained airplay on non-folk programmes on radio. She was one of a number of performers who took part in the Les Barker album, The Stones Of Callanish. Having taken some time out to have her first child she was inspired to write Breastfeeding Baby In The Park.
