Biography
Miami, Florida, USA. Atlantic Records promoted this smooth urban R&B singer, who released his debut album in November 1999, as a rival to the hugely successful R. Kelly. Brought up in Miami, the singer earned his dues in local nightclubs and various unsuccessful vocal groups. He was signed to local label Slip-N-Slide after in-house producer Funk Boogie, working on a late night recording session for the artist Trick Daddy, was impressed by J-Shins four-track demo. Slip-N-Slide subsequently became an Atlantic Records imprint, putting some major promotional muscle behind the singer. The debut single, One Night Stand, a dramatic duet with Xscape singer LaTocha Scott, saw J-Shin receive as much praise for his cutting edge lyrics as his classic vocal delivery.
