This San Francisco-based unit centred on the virtuoso skills of violinist David LaFlamme, formerly of Dan Hicks And His Hot Licks. Patti Santos (16 November 1949, d. 1989; vocals), Hal Wagenet (guitar), Linda LaFlamme (b. 5 April 1941; keyboards), Mitchell Holman (bass) and Val Fluentes (drums) completed the line-up which won a major recording contract in the wake of its appearance on Creams farewell concert bill. Its A Beautiful Day was marked by the inclusion of White Bird, the haunting opening track with which the act is inexorably linked. The instrumental Bombay Calling and Wasted Union Blues were other stand-out tracks. Elsewhere, a potpourri of musical styles revealed their undoubted versatility, a facet continued on Marrying Maiden.
