22 November 1886, Los Angeles, California, USA, d. 12 May 1928, Klamath Falls, Oregon, USA. An accomplished trumpet player as well as band leader, Herb Wiedoeft formed his own dance band in the early 20s in Los Angeles, California, USA. The brother of renowned saxophonist Rudy Wiedoeft, who played in the band, his orchestra also included two other members of the family, Adolph (drums) and Gerhardt aka Gay (bass). The other musical sidemen were Jess Stafford, Joe Nemoli, Gene Secrest, Larry Abbott, Fred Bibesheimer, Vincent Rose, Jose Sucedo, Clyde Lucas, Dub Kirkpatrick, Gene Rose, Leon Lucas and Art Winters. The group established itself by means of an extended run at the Cinderella Roof in Los Angeles. A contract to record with Brunswick Records followed, with the label soon playing host to material including the group’s theme tune, ‘Cinderella Blues’, a song written in tribute to their first home.
