Biography

Formed in 1964 at the Troubador Club in Los Angeles, California, when Rick Cunha (guitar/vocals) and Dave Dawson (autoharp/vocals), then working as a duo, met Larry Murray (guitar/vocals, ex-Scotsville Squirrel Barkers). Together they formed an acoustic country/folk act that quickly became an integral part of the west coast circuit. Now Is The Time For Hearts And Flowers revealed an act of breathtaking confidence, whose three-part harmonies and gift for melody brought new perspectives to a range of material drawn from Donovan, Carole King, Tim Hardin and Kaleidoscope. Terry Paul and Dan Woody were then added to the line-up, but Hearts And Flowers were a trio again for Of Horses, Kids And Forgotten Women. Although Rick Cunha had been replaced by another former Barker, Bernie Leadon, the blend of styles remained the same with Murray emerging as the trio’s chief songwriter.
