Radric Davis, 2 February 1980, Birmingham, Alabama, USA. This Atlanta-based gangsta rapper followed in his hustler father’s footsteps in his teens, and after being caught selling drugs on the streets received a custodial sentence. Gucci Mane had already dabbled in the rap scene prior to his incarceration, and following his release threw himself into music in an attempt to stay on the straight and narrow. He made his debut in 2005 with the independently released Trap House. The hard-hitting gangsta lyrics fitted in perfectly with the Atlanta rap scene and the album was a major local success, also generating the hit, ‘Icy’. The follow-ups, 2006’s Hard To Kill and 2007’s Trap-A-Thon, received national distribution through Tommy Boy Entertainment, and saw the rapper making the national charts for the first time.
