Biography

18 July 1970, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Rhys is the vocalist and principal songwriter of the Super Furry Animals. The band runs parallel with his own solo projects, with his work providing a vehicle for songs considered for the Furries but suiting the more intimate confines offered by a solitary artist.

Rhys first played drums in a band named Emily, before fronting Ffa Coffi Pawb (translated as ‘Everyone’s Coffee Beans’). Early signs of his prolific songwriting ability were apparent on the band’s three albums for the Ankstmusik label, released in the early 90s. Ffa Coffi Pawb split in 1993, whereupon the Super Furry Animals began to take shape.
