While his erstwhile songwriting partner Bob Mould went on to critical and commercial approbation with Sugar, former Hüsker Dü drummer and vocalist Hart has worked largely outside of the media glare following that bands collapse in December 1987. Hart, who quit or was fired (depending on which of the two conflicting accounts you choose to believe), took little time to regroup, and was the first of the two to release records under his own name. 2541 EP was released on SST Records, home to Hüsker Dü before their major label days with Warner Brothers Records, and observers looking for insights into the sundering of one of alternative rocks most productive partnerships were not disappointed.
