Porto studied classical piano, composition and music theory as well as aspects of electro technology at the Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo. In addition to piano, she also plays saxophone, guitar and percussion. Primarily, though, she became known in her homeland for her singing, which ranges through Brazilian popular music and also includes opera. In addition to all her performing skills, Porto is also a composer. In the early 90s she became well known in Brazil as a composer of experimental computer music, following in the steps of Edgar Varèse and Karlheinz Stockhausen.
