Biography
Felicitas Claassen, 2 December 1969, Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Before deciding upon singing as a career, Claassen trained as a ballet dancer and also studied acting. Conservatory trained, she then moved into jazz and other forms of improvised music. An excellent jazz singer with a distinctively contemporary approach to her work, she customarily uses her voice as an instrumental part of the groups with which she sings. She often works with the alto saxophonist Carolyn Breuer, pianist Sebastien Altekamp, bass player Stephan Van Wylick and drummer Joost Patocka. In 2000, Claassen formed her own band and with the release of her first own name album was clearly making a bid for international recognition with a broad-based mainstream repertoire. She later adopted the stage name of Fay Claassen.
