3 June 1946, Norfolk, Virginia, USA. Holmans claim to fame was the 1969 soul ballad Hey There Lonely Girl, sung in a piercing falsetto style. Holman began playing keyboards and guitar as a child and studied music at schools in New York City and Pennsylvania. He first recorded in 1962 for the small Leopard Records and later with the Cameo/Parkway company. He collected minor chart hits for that company and then signed with ABC Records in 1968. Hey There Lonely Girl was a remake of a song originally recorded by Ruby And The Romantics as Hey There Lonely Boy. Holman changed the gender and took the song to number 2 in the US charts in 1970. Four years later the song reached number 4 in the UK. He continued to have lesser R&B hits on the Parkway label with This Cant Be True (1965) and Im A Loser (1966).
