Biography
A US heavy metal supergroup, Down was formed in 1991 by Phil Anselmo (Philip Hansen Anselmo, 30 June 1968, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA; vocals, Pantera), Pepper Keenan (b. 8 May 1967, Oxford, Mississippi, USA; guitar, Corrosion Of Conformity), Kirk Windstein (b. 14 April 1965, Wiltshire, England; guitar/vocals, Crowbar), Todd Strange (b. 1966, USA; bass, Crowbar) and Jimmy Bower (b. 1966, USA; drums, Crowbar). By the time they released their self-produced debut in 1995, the members had been playing together for four years. Two demos recorded during this time were regularly traded on the underground networks. Forgoing the predicted thrash metal and hardcore influences, NOLA ventured instead for an enjoyable 70s rock n roll sound on songs such as Lifer and Stone The Crow.
