Biography

2 February 1933, Lakeland, Florida, USA, d. 3 March 2005, London, England. Although best known for her spell with the innovative UK folk rock unit Eclection, this American singer and autoharpist became a well-known attraction in Britain’s folk clubs in the 60s. Henderson moved to England from her native Los Angeles in 1965, on the advice of her US Air Force brother who was temporarily stationed there, and recommended the work opportunities. She brought little more than her savings, autoharp and Alan Lomax songbooks with her. Previously she had performed in the celebrated Greenwich Village folk melting pot, at one point as backing singer to beat poet Lord Buckley.

After finding her feet at the Troubadour club in London, Henderson cultivated a profitable partnership with guitarist John Renbourn and completed two excellent albums, the second of which saw her switch from traditional Appalachian to contemporary styles. Henderson replaced...
