Biography

Refugees from the Dillards and the Byrds, respectively, Doug Dillard (6 March 1937, East St. Louis, Illinois, USA) and Gene Clark (b. Harold Eugene Clark, 17 November 1944, Tipton, Missouri, USA, d. 24 May 1991, Sherman Oaks, California, USA) joined forces in 1968 to form one of the first country rock groups. Backed by the Expedition, featuring Bernie Leadon (banjo/guitar), Chris Hillman (mandolin), Byron Berline (fiddle), ‘Sneaky’ Pete Kleinow (pedal steel), Michael Clarke (drums), Don Beck (dobro/mandolin) and David Jackson (string bass), they recorded two albums for A&M Records, which confirmed their standing among the best of the early country rock exponents. The Fantastic Expedition Of Dillard & Clark featured several strong compositions by Clark and Leadon including ‘The Radio Song’, ‘Out On The Side’, ‘Something’s Wrong’ and ‘Train Leaves Here This Morning’.
