Biography
Dohnyale Sharon Hines, 4 September 1970, Sydney, Australia. Deni Hines, the daughter of popular American singer Marcia Hines, first came to national prominence in 1991 when she was the featured vocalist on an Australian Top 5 hit by the Rockmelons, a version of Aint No Sunshine. It was a full five years before her debut solo album followed. In the interim, she had aborted a projected album release which had involved recording sessions in America, and in 1992/3 taken part in a long and highly successful run in the revival of Jesus Christ Superstar in Australia, where she took the female lead as Mary Magdalene (the same role her mother played in 1973/4). Her debut solo single, Its Alright, followed at the end of 1995. Her first album was released early in 1996 and achieved gold status domestically and an impressive 100, 000 unit sales profile in Japan, where she was regularly featured in the mainstream fashion press.
