Biography

Derek Dickerson, 3 June 1968, Creve Coeur, St. Louis, Missouri, USA. This highly fêted roots guitarist/vocalist began playing at an early age and was a member of several amateur bands during his high school years in Missouri. He started his professional career in 1987 with garage/surf combo the Untamed Youth. Despite numerous personnel changes this popular local outfit managed to record several independently released albums before disbanding in 1993. By this time Dickerson had relocated to Los Angeles and had begun immersing himself in the city’s burgeoning roots scene. While the Untamed Youth was still active he formed the Dave And Deke Combo with that band’s drummer Dave Stuckey. The combo’s energetic take on hillbilly music proved a highly popular draw on the west coast retro circuit, but following the release of two albums the main protagonists decided to part company.
