Biography
David Anthony Young, 29 January 1940, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. This highly gifted bass player studied in Toronto and quickly made a great impression on fellow musicians and audiences alike. In 1962 he attended Berklee College Of Music, subsequently returning to Toronto. For several years he performed with guitarist Lenny Breau, a Toronto nightclub set in the early 80s being recorded and released under Breaus name on the Guitarchives label almost 15 years later as Live At Bourbon St. In the 90s, Young frequently displayed a penchant for working in duos and recorded a series of duets with a roster of distinguished pianists. Among his partners on record are Kenny Barron and Cyrus Chestnut, fellow countrymen Oliver Jones and Oscar Peterson, with whom he has toured Japan, Barry Harris and Tommy Flanagan.
