Biography
Bath, Ohio, USA. Washburne studied classical trombone performance at the University of Wisconsin where his tutors included William Richardson, Richard Davis, and Les Thimmeg. In the mid-80s, he lived in Zambia for a short while, studying the countrys traditional music. At the New England Conservatory he studied Third Stream music with John Swallow, Ran Blake, and Bob Moses. In 1988, Washburne won the NEC Graduation Concerto Competition. From 1989 he was resident in New York City where he performed extensively with numerous classical, jazz, rock, and Latin groups. He also toured North, South and Central America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Although his studies were predominantly in the classical form, a growing interest in Latin music was accentuated through the influence of arranger Barry Rogers, who worked with Eddie Palmieri.
