Biography

This American heavy metal band was formed by ex-Fallout duo Louie Beato (alias Lord Petrus T; drums) and Peter Steele (Peter Ratajczyk, 4 January 1962, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA; vocals/bass) in New York in 1983. With the addition of guitarist Keith Alexander (b. 23 November 1963, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA, d. 11 July 2005), they attracted media interest by basing their image on a Mad Max -style post-apocalyptic scenario. Dressed in animal skins, they achieved a degree of notoriety with their racially naïve lyrics. Their songs relied on basic thrash metal with little originality. Marc Piovanetti replaced Alexander on 1987’s Retaliation, which resulted in a marked improvement in the band’s guitar sound. However, this was not sufficient to enable them realistically to compete with first-division acts such as Slayer, Testament or Anthrax. Piovanetti left in 1988, to join Crumbsuckers, while Steele formed Type O Negative....
