Biography
Belinda Jones, Staffordshire, England. Jones rose to prominence in the new millennium as one of the leading stars of the UKs new folk scene, alongside fellow female singer-songwriters Eliza Carthy and Kate Rusby. She trained as a classical pianist/flautist and played in her fathers ceilidh band, before moving to London to study jazz piano (she also plays the flute, accordion and Irish whistle). In the mid-90s, Jones played keyboards and accordion for indie band the Wise Wound, appearing with them at the Glastonbury Festival. She also began running vocal and instrumental workshops, earning her living as a classical and folk tutor. Jones debut album, Turn To Me, was released by the independent Bedspring label in March 2000. This low budget recording featured occasional backing from Saskia Tomkins (fiddle) and Simon Haworth (guitar), but the main focal point was Jones soulful voice and understated piano work.
