Biography

Houston, Texas, USA. This Houston-based rapper came to prominence as a member of the city’s Screwed Up Click, a crew of freestyling rappers associated with the late DJ Screw. Big Pokey enjoyed a relatively stable upbringing in Houston’s Third Ward, and enjoyed initial success as a college football player. His start in the music business came, like many of Houston’s other aspiring rappers, with appearances on DJ Screw’s highly popular mix tapes. Big Pokey’s first two recording projects, 1999’s Hardest Pit In The Litter and the following year’s D Game 2000, introduced his fluid rapping style and were both regional bestsellers. Following a disagreement with his record label, he formed his own record label and artist management firm, MobStyle Management and Entertainment Inc.
