6 June 1903, White Plains, New York, USA, d. 20 November 1962, Portland, Oregon, USA. Founded in New York City, New York, USA, in the early 20s, Bert Lown’s dance band included musicians Adrian Rollini, Chauncey Gray, Tommy Fulline, Irving Kaufman, Paul Mason, Johnny Costello, Rudy Adler, Miff Mole, Frank Cush, Eddie Farley, Ward Lay, Stan King, Merrill Kline and Elmer Fedlkamp. The featured vocalists were Smith Ballew and Scrappy Lambert as well as the Biltmore Rhythm Section. Essentially a hotel band, the orchestra achieved more widespread prominence through remote broadcasts conducted primarily at the Biltmore. Their theme tune was ‘Bye Bye Blues’, though other originals such as ‘You’re The One I Care For’, ‘By My Side’ and ‘Tired’ were released on labels including Harmony, Bluebird Records, Victor Records and Columbia Records.
