Benjamin James Aronov, 16 October 1932, Gary, Indiana, USA. Aronov studied piano from the age of nine and also played oboe and saxophones. In Tulsa, Oklahoma, from 14, he was occasionally in the house band at a club accompanying visitors such as Urbie Green and Phil Urso. In 1952 he joined Jerry Walds orchestra in New Orleans before entering the army for two years from early 1953 where he studied arranging. In 1955, he was in California and a regular at the Lighthouse at Hermosa Beach where he played with Conte Candoli, Terry Gibbs, Lou Levy, Frank Rosolino, Bob Cooper and others. He then joined an orchestra led by Pete Rugolo that accompanied June Christy on tour and on several recording dates. In New York from 1960, Aronov studied at the Manhattan School of Music and from 1965 recorded with Morgana King, an association that continued into the 90s.
