Biography
This highly competent German hard rock quartet was formed in the mid-80s by Walter Pietsch (guitar/vocals), Bernhard Weiss (guitar/vocals), Werner Kleinhans (bass) and Richard Michalski (drums/vocals). Their diverse style recalls Boston and Black Sabbath and also Europe and the Scorpions. Their debut for EMI Electrola, 1989s Kingdom Of The Night, became the bestselling debut album ever by a hard rock band in Germany. The same year the band supported Black Sabbath on their European tour. Keyboard player Harry Oellers was brought in to augment the bands sound as their albums continued to enjoy commercial success throughout Europe and in Japan. Markus Gfeller replaced Kleinhans on 1995s Matters Of Survival. After a short hiatus during which founding member Pietsch left to concentrate on production work, Axiss forged on into the 21st century with new members Guido Wehmeyer (guitar) and Udo Niemeyer (bass).
