Biography
28 May 1962, Belfast, Northern Ireland. White was born into a household that brewed creative endeavour, with his father a journalist, his mother a voracious reader and his grandmother a piano player. His background also forged an awareness of socio-political matters, which resulted in his first poem (Riots) at the age of nine. At 13, he started playing guitar, inspired by John Lennons Give Peace A Chance, while his later teenage years were influenced by Northern Irelands punk rock scene, French poetry and singer-songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Roy Harper and John Martyn. He released his debut single, Religious Persuasion, on Stiff Records in 1985, instantly achieving indie credibility with his blend of Dylanesque wordplay and stroppy musicianship.
