Biography

1950, Dallas, Texas, USA. Playing guitar from early childhood, Jones was sufficiently skilled at the age of 16 to become a professional musician. Among the blues artists and bands with whom he played are Freddie King’s Thunderbirds, Bobby Patterson’s Mustangs, Johnnie Taylor, R.L. Griffin, and Charlie Robertson. This period extended from the late 60s to the early 80s. In the late 80s, Jones was a member of the California band, Tony Cole and Russell Jackson’s Silent Partners, and he also recorded with singer and pianist Katie Webster on 1988’s The Swamp Boogie Queen. Jones caught the attention of Charlie Musselwhite while working as a session musician in the San Francisco area, and was hired as a member of his band. He remained with the harmonica player for a few years, appearing on the Alligator Records releases Ace Of Harps (1990), Signature (1991) and In My Time … (1993).
