Walter Brennan Biography

25 July 1894, Lynn, Massachusetts, USA, d. 21 September 1974, Oxnard, California, USA. A character actor who specialized in playing the classic ol' timer and "toothless old men", especially in westerns, Brennan appeared in dozens of films from 1924 onwards. Notable among these were The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer, To Have And Have Not and Rio Bravo. He went on to play Grandpa in The Real McCoys television series, which was a forerunner of The Beverly Hillbillies. He hit the pop charts with three spoken word singles - "Dutchman's Gold" (1960), "Old Rivers" and "Mama Sang Me A Song" (1962). He was still acting during his seventies in The Love Bug Rides Again, but died in 1974.
