The Quick Biography

This UK studio-based duo featured Col Campsie (vocals, guitar) and George McFarlane (synthesizers, bass, guitar). They not only worked on their own material but also wrote for Chaka Khan and produced Haywoode, Blue Zoo and Second Image. The Quick debuted in 1980 and instantly became club favourites with a string of singles aimed at the dancefloor. Only one single, "Rhythm Of The Jungle", managed to cross over to the singles chart, missing the UK Top 40 position by one place in May 1982. On the strength of the hit an album containing all the singles to date plus some of the b-sides was released to little success. By 1983 they had found club success in the USA, but the limited following in the UK had dwindled so much that all future releases sank without trace. In 1988 the duo re-emerged as Giant Steps along with Gardner Cole (keyboards), Edie Lehmann (backgrounds), Bruce Gaitsch (guitar) and David Boruff (saxophone). The debut album and a single, "Another Lover", were both Top 20 hits in the USA. (NB: Not to be confused with the 70s USA band of the same name).
