The Music Explosion Biography

Bubblegum pop band formed in Mansfield, Ohio, USA. Jamie Lyons (USA, d. 25 September 2006, Little River, South Carolina, USA; vocals), Don (Tudor) Atkins (guitar), Rick Nesta (rhythm guitar), Burton Stahl (bass/organ) and Bob Avery (harmonia) sprang to fame in 1967 with "Little Bit O'Soul" which reached number 2 in the US chart. This driving, irresistible song was written by UK songwriting duo John Carter and Ken Lewis and had originally been recorded, unsuccessfully, by the Little Darlings. The Music Explosion secured another minor hit with "Sunshine Games", but were unable to sustain a permanent career and the band was subsequently absorbed into the Kasenetz/Katz Singing Orchestal Circus. Singer Lyons later recorded solo before emerging in the Capitol City Rockets, an early 70s anglophile pop band whose lone album was critically acclaimed.
